fashion & cupcakes (a match made on the catwalk!)

what does fashion have in common with cupcakes? the ability to make things pop I guess! So couldn't find a better way to bring these two together than as illustrated on the below visual. Yellow Bowl Bakes (a.k.a YBB) is the new kid on the block, a local cupcake business in Dublin/Meath areas! Among other pastry like things, they make divine cupcakes for all sorts of parties, including fashion events!

Fashion Framed, if you missed it yesterday afternoon, was held @ Dundrum Town Centre featuring local fashion shops like Penneys, BT2, Harvey Nichols, House of Fraser, River Island, Zara + more. We have merged the image with YBB's colourful cupcakes & buckets of love! A match made on the catwalk, don't you think?!

NEW YORK FASHION WEEK •• DAVID TLALE S/S14 [WITHOUT PEOPLE'S REVOLUTION]

I have often wondered what it costs to put together a fashion show in NYC! Well now we all know, well sort of. Kelly Cutrone supposedly pulled the plugged off the DAVID TLALE S/S14 show @ #NYFW after her company [People's Revolution] were not paid their $15K fee for producing the show.

That's a whooping lotta dollar for a show! Needless to say the show went on. Trust in the #TLALE power!

the long walk to freedom - #NELSONMANDELA

Don't know about you but I have been an Idris Elba for about 3 years now [since #TheWire]! Although I didn't see a fit for him on Nelson Mandela's Long Walk to Freedom bio pic, after watching this I am definitely excited and hope this movie will make it to the Irish cinemas.

NEW YORK FASHION WEEK •• VICTORIA BECKHAM S/S14

One of my most favourite designers ••• VICTORIA BECKHAM appears to have done it again! Simple clean flirtatious cuts for her Spring/Summer 2014 collection. Her work always ticks the right boxes, the right amount of elegance & cool. I love it!

FADE FASHION by PHOKUHLE • MAFU

It's fashion season peeps! So get ready for many Fashion Nights Out over the next few weeks! I had the please of being a special guest at one of these nights a week ago in the heart of Dublin. I was supporting someone especially talented and whose work I so admire! She is a young Fashion Designer Student, PHOKUHLE • MAFU.

She showed a mini collection, FADE • FASHION, which she had recently put together for college. It has to be said she stole the show! The presentation of her work was well thought out, telling a story of the inspiration behind the work. It was one of those rare opportunities where you experience something that so obviously has an even bigger potential.

The collection was created from a mix of silver goats leather skin and some sort of cream polar material. She even created her own material for one of her dresses. It was very exciting to see such potential from a young designer. Strongly suggest you watch this [space]!

oldie but goodie!

this is a necklace I bought a few years ago at home (Bulawayo). It's black metal and has gold tips. I wore it with my Zara top and loved how the model on the top appears to be crowned by this jewellery piece! I call it my #Africa meets #China outfit!

the Africans they [media] never show you.

I have had a beautiful weekend of total inspiration from the original source of all inspirations, mother Africa herself. I am inspired by the next generation of fully charged, fully knowing, fully equipped young African women & men who are living in the now and creating success for themselves.

Ignorance is bliss [not always]. It's true that the media has tended to focus on the not so positive aspects of Africa, so much that the beautiful things that are happening are furthest away from one's mind. Social Media is connecting these dots. There is an evolution happening [in Africa] that is not really spoken of.

I have always listed Africa & Fashion as my love and inspiration for this blog & all things I do, today I am also carving out the names of those Africans who don't see boundaries or limitations when striving for their dreams. I am adding those that have lived the life I dream to be comfortable living and the world around gets comfortable seeing. Names of young women, older women, of colour [or not]. I am inspired by African Fashion icons, musicians, families of all colour and I realise life is for living, it certainly isn't a rehearsal!

The next blog post will feature the Africans they never show you.... the African icons.

it's faces like these.

after #wedded bliss and all

I have been quiet largely because I was getting married so had lot's of wedding things keeping me super busy! The good news is that it's all done now and I'm back into it [married and all]! During our mini honeymoon this is what I was reading, and I was reminded of where my inspiration to start this blog came from! total way back when #throwback.
